Control system for a gearbox of the automatic type for a vehicle, notably a motor vehicle, comprising a parking brake mechanism provided with an actuator (12) of a lock for immobilizing the vehicle in the parked condition. It comprises control sliders that can be made to undergo a translational movement in order to engage or disengage gear ratios in the box. Said mechanism comprises a locking member (60) capable of occupying firstly an active position in which it is secured to one of said sliders (26) and secondly an inactive position uncoupled from said slider. Said mechanism comprises a parking blocking control assembly (40) which can move with the locking member (60) when said slider commands the disengagement or engagement of a ratio, when the locking member is active, and which occupies an active position so that the lock is in the active position for immobilizing the vehicle in the parked condition.
