In an electromagnetic induction flowmeter (10), Fig. 1 (not shown) to monitor the flow pressure of a liquid metal, a resistance shunt 17 is provided on the exterior surface of the duct 13 to connect the electrodes 27, the resistance of which shunt is chosen to be equal to that of the path between the electrodes through the liquid metal. The dimensions of the duct are chosen so that the hydraulic pressure drop is low e. g. less than one per cent of the applied pressure, whereby the opposing pressure due to the induced current is approximately equal to the applied pressure. Thus the applied pressure is determined from the potential drop across the shunt which is a layer of copper or silver. |
