In a loading unit for a machine tool in which a rotary tool magazine store and a rotary work pallet store are each indexed to present a tool magazine 7 and a work pallet 13 at adjacent vertical stations to be fed into a machine tool, the respective stores are indexed by an hydraulic jack 30, 41 that pivots a movable element 16, 39 about a shaft 1, 8. The movable element 16, 39 has a pneumatic jack operated finger that engages and disengages from a slot 27, 40 in the paddles 2-6 and 9-12 that make up the respective stores. The finger engages in the slot as the piston-rod of the jack 30, 41 retracts and causes rotation of the store. A further fixed element 36, 44, similar in operation to the movable element 16, 39, has a finger for engagement in a slot in a paddle to hold the store against rotation as the finger in movable element 16, 39 is retracted and the jack 30, 41 rotates the movable element 16, 39 back to its start position. Switches are arranged in the mechanism so that it can be automatically controlled by the programme control of the machine tool. The work pallet store includes a system of shields 14, brushes and air jets to direct swarf on to an Archimedean screw conveyer 15. |
