Provided is a technique which can prevent the deterioration of a fuel cell that can be caused in association with abnormal operations (shout-down of start-up, fuel shortage), and which requires low cost. Specifically provided is an anode-side catalyst composition for fuel cells, which comprises a catalyst and an ion exchange resin, wherein the catalyst comprises an electrically conductive material and catalyst particles supported on the electrically conductive material. The anode-side catalyst composition is characterized in that the catalyst particles are composed of an alloy having poorer oxygen reduction capability and a lower overvoltage for water electrolysis than those of platinum and also having hydrogen oxidation capability. |
