REDUCTION CATALYST COMPRISING PALLADIUM-GOLD ALLOY

Provided is a reduction catalyst, which comprises a conductive carbon and a palladium-gold ally that is supported by the carbon, and wherein the alloying degree of the alloy is 50-100%. This palladium-supporting catalyst has excellent reduction ability and exhibits high conversion rate and preferably excellent selectivity if used in a hydrogenation reaction. The reduction catalyst is useful as a catalyst for oxygen reduction or a catalyst for hydrogenation. The catalyst for oxygen reduction is useful as a cathode electrode catalyst for solid polymer electrolyte fuel cells. The cathode electrode catalyst can be used for a cathode electrode for solid polymer electrolyte fuel cells.
