In a fabric comprising three sets of parallel yarns x, y, z in which the sets are at acute angles to one another, the yarns are interlaced, by hand or on a modified loom having a transversely movable heddle, to provide an anchored intersection at each under-or overlap. The intersections enable the fabric to resist stretching or shearing forces in the plane of the fabric. The number of yarns in any 'set is not less than one-third of the number of yarns in any other set measured in a direction normal to the yarns in said any set and counted across one pattern repeat. In modifications pairs of yarns, spaced from adjacent pairs, may be used in any or all of the sets and may follow a similar or different interlacing pattern. In further embodiments yarns of one, two or each set may be closely adjacent so that the the fabric is without gaps between intersections and is denser than the fabric shown. |
