Provided is an outer casing for a control cable, comprising a linear body having a transverse cross-section configured so that, when helically winding the linear body, the transverse cross-section is not bent and deformed and does not protrude toward the inner cavity. An outer casing for a control cable comprises: a reinforcement layer formed by helically winding a linear body so that an inner cavity is formed; and a cover layer for covering the reinforcement layer. The linear body has a transverse cross-section having a width greater than the height thereof and is provided with a recess at substantially the center of the transverse cross-section in the width direction thereof, the recess being disposed on the cover layer side.
