The invention relates to a filler neck insert (200) designed for being retrofittable in a filler neck (10) of a tank (60), having a rim portion (100) provided for contacting an inner wall (18) of the filler neck (10), the rim portion (100) being expandable from a first cross section (C1) for being inserted into the filler neck (10) to a second cross section (C2) in an expanded state after being inserted in the filler neck (10). The rim portion (100) is expandable to a cylindrical ring (R100) having its second cross section (C2) adjusted to a cross section of the inner wall (18) of the filler neck (10) and being frictionally engageable with the inner wall (18) of the filler neck (10).
