摘要 1,118,370. Applying adhesive labels cut from strips; securing articles to cards. TAPELER CORP. 11 Oct., 1966 [22 Oct., 1965; 25 April, 1966], No. 45494/66. Headings B8C and B8F. A feed member 29 of square cross-section, Fig. 2, in a device for applying lengths of pressure- or heat-sensitive tape, has at each of its four corners, an axial cutting edge which co-operates with an anvil 38 to sever a length of tape from a reel 11, the tape being retained on the feed member by prongs 39. Shafts 25 and 26, which support the anvil 38 and feed member 29 respectively, are carried at each end in frames 24 affixed to the casing of the device by springs 28. A pawl 32, pivoted on members 20 at the bottom of an actuating stem 16, engages with one from a set of four pins 30, which extend through the end of the feed member. When an operator depresses the actuating stem, the pawl turns the feed member through 90 degrees anticlockwise, whilst the anvil acts with the cutting edge between faces 29A, 29B of the member, thus to sever the tape held on face 29B which turns parallel to a surface (36), Fig. 4 (not shown), the adhesive side of the tape being disposed downwards. During the depression of the stem 16, the members 20 engage with the frames 24 and force them downwards until the face 29B is pressed against the surface (36), the prongs on the face being pushed into a recess 26A in shaft 26. In a second embodiment, Figs. 10-12 (not shown), the frames, carrying the anvil and feed member, are supported by the inturned shoulders of a pair of hangers (40). When the actuation stem is depressed, side members (120) at the stem base wedge the hangers apart and push the frame downwards. The anvil (138), Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), has grooves to facilitate only partial severance of the tape, complete severance occurring by rupture after the tape is applied to the surface (36). A rubber strap (47) around part of the reel periphery imparts resistance to rotation and a roller guides the tape to the feed member. For heat-sensitive tapes a heater (48) is located in the shaft of the feed member. In a third embodiment for use with weak tapes, an arm 51, Fig. 13, pivoted at 52 and carrying a roller 53 is upwardly biased against a stop 57 by an adjustable spring 55. The sudden pull, caused by the turning of the feed member 229, is cushioned by the roller 53 yielding towards a lower stop 58. Reel 211 is biased by a coil spring (64), Fig. 17 (not shown), and a roller 245 is equipped with a one-way clutch. If a normal strength tape is used the roller 53 is by-passed. The feed member may have transverse channels (67), Fig. 19 (not shown), for mounting an article, e.g. a pencil on a surface, such as a card, and the channels may each have an insert of foam rubber (68).
