988,925. Tufting machines. SINGER CO. March 16, 1964 [March 21, 1963], No. 11101/64. Heading D1G. In a tufting machine a knife, which co-operates with a hook for cutting tufts seized thereby, is floatingly coupled to an element which is located on the opposite side of the knife from the hook and which biases the knife against the hook. A hook 13, fixed to a bracket 18 rigid with an oscillating shaft 19, has a cutting edge 21 which co-operates with the cutting edge 31 of a knife 30. A lug 32 on the latter is received freely in an aperture 33 in a resilient blade 28 fixed adjustably by a set screw 29 in a socket 26 having a stem 25 fixed adjustably by a set screw 27 in an oscillating shift 22. The knife-carrying end of blade 28 is curved to have line contact with knife 30, and biases the latter against hook 13. |
