1,246,034. Polyolefin compositions. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 31 Jan., 1969 [1 Feb., 1968], No. 5354/69. Heading C3P. A thermoplastic moulding composition comprises an olefin polymer, and (a) a powdered asbestos containing from 2 to 4% by weight of water and (b) as an adhesion promoter a polyamide of (I) an aliphatic saturated C 4 -C 12 monoamino monocarboxylic acid and/or (II) an aliphatic saturated C 4 -C 12 diamine and an aliphatic saturated C 4 -C 12 dicarboxylic acid, the polyamide having a molecular weight of from 2000 to 25,000. The composition typically contains 25-50 parts by weight of asbestos per 100 parts of olefin polymer and 0À1-70 parts by weight of adhesion promoter for each 100 parts of asbestos. The compositions may also contain pigment dyes, stabilizers, slip additives and fillers. An example is directed to a moulding composition comprised of polypropylene (having a high-load melt index within the range 1À5-25 and a 10-30% fraction soluble in boiling nheptane), chrysotile asbestos, preferably of particle size less than 0À1 mm., and nylon (from hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid) and, optionally, one of the following ingredients: carbon black, silica gel, zinc oxide, polyformaldehyde, poly - tertiary - butyl acrylate, and ethylene - tertiary - butyl acrylate copolymer. |
