A structure includes a first faying surface 400 and a second faying surface 402 which together create an electrical bond, and a sensor 312 operatively placed proximate the surfaces. The sensor includes a current port 444, 446 for injecting a fixed current through the electrical bond, a voltage port 440, 442 for sensing a voltage across the electrical bond induced by the fixed current, a processing device programmed to determine a resistance of the electrical bond based on the fixed current and sensed voltage, and a wireless interface for transmitting at least one of the sensed voltage and the determined resistance to an external device. The sensor may be located on a washer 300 and self powered with an RF to DC converter wherein a wireless RF signal activates the current injection and transmission. May be used on aircraft structures. |
