A reverse gear comprises a drive shaft 8 passing through aligned hollow shafts 9F, 9R, the inner ends of which carry bevel pinions 7F, 7R meshing with a single bevel wheel 6 at the end of a perpendicular driven shaft 1, scoop controlled hydraulic couplings F, R being mounted at the outer ends of the shafts 9 for connecting the appropriate drive pinion 7 to the output shaft 1. The couplings are carried by bearings 11, 12, 18 on the hollow shafts 9. The arrangement shown includes gearing for driving a liquid supply pump 31 for the couplings and a lubricating pump 37. Friction or electromagnetic clutches may be substituted for the hydraulic couplings. |
