An infra-red transmitter 1 which is plugged into the headphone socket of a mobile telephone or electronic portable device 6 to add remote control functionality for audio-visual equipment comprises a jack plug 2, infra-red LED 3, frequency encoder and data encoder. Data from the device 6 modulates the output of a carrier wave generator. Power can be supplied to the transmitter from a battery or by rectifying a square/sine wave audio signal from the headphone socket. |
