<p>The method involves acquiring ripple of a metal sheet (40). Target values for flattening the metal sheet along longitudinal and/or transverse direction are determined by an algorithm before acquiring the ripple and yield strength of the metal sheet. Longitudinal edges and/or front side edges of the metal sheet are clamped by a clamping device (30). The metal sheet is stretched along the longitudinal and/or transverse direction by using the clamping device. Actual values of the stretching of the metal sheet are acquired. An independent claim is also included for a device for flattening a rectangular metal sheet.</p>
