1,240,563. Controlling reactors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 7 Feb., 1969 [13 Feb., 1968], No. 6850/69. Heading G6C. In a boiling water nuclear reactor a variable circulation of water is urged through the core 13 by the jet pumps 17, 18, to control the moderation and therefore the reactivity. An increase in circulation increases the volume of water in the core, the moderation and the reactor power level. The increased steam generation reduces the power level which is controlled at a higher level. Circulation of coolant is effected at a fixed rate by the pump 44 and the jet pumps 17. The rate of flow of feedwater from the pump 37 through the jet pump 18 is adjustable by the throttle valves 46, 49. |
