1,154,804. Projectile fuzes. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. 8 June, 1967 [27 Oct., 1966], No. 26524/67. Heading F3A. Fuze for spin stabilized projectiles comprising one or more piezo-electric elements 3 which are arranged to be mechanically loaded by the centrifugal forces produced by rotation of the projectiles. The generated current is used to fire a detonator (not shown). The piezo-electric elements are arranged symmetrically about the axes of the projectiles and are each loaded by one or more inertia weights 1 which may act directly or through a system of levers. The piezoelectric elements are electrically connected together, and connection to the surface coated electrodes (not shown) of the elements is effected with conductive foil 2. The piezo-electrically induced charges are insulated by means with a discharge time constant which is a multiple of the flight time of the projectile. The piezo-electric elements can be made of barium titanate, lead zirconate or mixtures thereof. |
