Novel s-triazines of the formula wherein R 1 represents a methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, 1-methyl-cyclopropyl, sec-butyl, isobutyl, tert.-butyl, isopentyl, 2-methoxyethyl, 3- methoxypropyl, 1-cyanoethyl, 1-cyanopropyl, 2- cyanoprop-(2)-yl, 2-cyanobut-(2)-yl or 3-cyanopent(3)-yl radical, R 2 represents a methyl or ethyl radical and n is 0 or 1, are prepared (i) by reacting a chlorotriazine of the formula with thiourea and dimethyl sulphate or diethy sulphate in the presence of a base, (ii) by reacting the above chlorotriazine with methyl or ethyl mercaptan in the presence of an acidbinding agent and an inert solvent or diluent or (iii) by reacting cyanuric chloride with a cyclopropylamine or an amine NH 2 R 1 , reacting the intermediate monoaminodichlorotriazine with methyl or ethyl mercaptan as in (ii) or with an alkali metal salt of the mercaptan and then reacting the aminoalkylthiochlorotriazine product with which ever amine was omitted in the first reaction step. The novel triazines possess herbicidal properties and are used in conventional forms for the selective pre- and post-emergence control of weeds. |
