PURPOSE: A method for preparing gamma-amino butyric acid(GABA) by bioconversion using glutamate or glutamic acid as a substrate is provided. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing salt-free gamma-amino butyric acid(GABA) comprises a step of bioconverting GABA using glutamate or glutamic acid as a substrate and glutamate decarboxylase and a step of adding water-insoluble solid acid during the bioconversion reaction. The solid acid is a cation exchange resin.
