PURPOSE: A specimen for evaluating the root crack of the welded part of a high-tension thick plate and a method of evaluating the same are provided to check whether welding a high-strength thick plate is possible by quantitatively evaluating the root crack of the high-strength thick plate. CONSTITUTION: A specimen for evaluating the root crack of the welded part of a high-tension thick plate comprises a specimen unit(110), an end tab unit(120), a strong back unit(130), and a backing unit. The specimen unit forms a certain groove angle and a root gap on the clearance of a thick plate. The thick plates are arranged side by side so that their sides face each other. The specimen unit is root welded. The end tab unit is formed on both ends of the specimen unit in its length direction. The strong back unit is formed on the lower surface of the specimen unit.
