PURPOSE: An image quality improvement method which uses a local dimming backlight unit having a high dynamic range is provided to improve recognition properties of an image by increasing backlight brightness. CONSTITUTION: An image quality improvement method is comprised of the following steps. A pixel block is established(S100). A brightness value corresponding to a minimum unit range pixel block of a local dimming process is calculated(S110). An algorithm is only utilized for a Y value. Algorithm A is executed.
