1,129,632. Water distributing troughs in heat exchangers; refrigerating. BALTIMORE AIRCOIL CO. Inc. 11 Jan., 1966 [19 Nov., 1965], No. 1715/68. Divided out of 1,129,631. Headings F4H and F4K. [Also in Division B1] A trough having bottom and side walls from which latter, water overflows to be distributed over a heat exchange surface traversed by an evaporative air stream flowing in counterflow to the water, includes means subdividing the overflow water into a plurality of spaced-apart streams, and further subdividing means comprising an arcuate baffle 48 secured to the exterior of the bottom of the trough with its convex surface uppermost, The trough is intended for use with either direct contact heat exchangers (e.g. cooling towers) or with indirect contact tubular heat exchangers (e.g. refrigerant condensers or fluid coolers), examples of each being described (Figs. 1 and 2). The overflow subdividing means may comprise V-shaped spill notches 47 which for the two walls, may as shown be relatively staggered. Or the subdividing means may comprise a corrugated partition such as described in Specification 1,129,631. The arcuate baffle 48 may be notched or corrugated, these notches or corrugations being more closely spaced than the spill notches 47 to further subdivide the water streams. |
