A mobile communication terminal having a function of erasing personal data and an operating method thereof are provided to prevent the personal data from being leaked by automatically erasing stored personal data when the mobile communication terminal is missing. A mobile communication terminal having a function of erasing personal data comprises a message generator(12), a memory(14) and a controller(11). The message generator(12) generates a personal data erasing message. The memory(14) stores the personal information and setup data in accordance with personal data erasing message. The controller(11) reads and checks a received message, and erases the corresponding personal data according to a checking result. The controller(11) includes a data setup unit(11a), a determining unit(11b) and a data processor(11c). The data setup unit(11a) sets up a recognition code for recognizing the personal data erasing message, and an authentication code for authenticating a user. The determining unit(11b) determines whether a message received via the recognition code and the authentication code is the personal data erasing message. The data processor(11c) erases the corresponding data in accordance with when the personal data erasing message is received.
