Wire strainers. - A bale-wiring machine 8, Fig. 1, is carried by a vertically movable support 7, and its weight is counterbalanced by a weight 10 or spring 11 or both. The rod 5 to which the support is secured is slidable in fixed bearings 3, 4 carried by a standard 1 fixed to the table 2. An adjustably mounted spring buffer 12 limits the upward movement of the machine. The twister slots of the machine lie just forwardly of the table edge, and in order to permit the wire to be passed around the centre of the bale &c. A, a bent laminar strip 14, Fig. 5, is held in a slot 15, Fig. 1, formed by a metal. lic strip at the edge of the table. The bale &c. rests on the member 14 as shown, the tie enclosing the member, which is subsequently removed. A wire reel 16, Fig. 4, is supported some distance above the bale &c. and the wire is guided to the bale &c. through an eye 28 at the end of a cranked lever 25 provided with a brake block 27 and pivoted to a block 24 on the spindle 23 of the reel 16. On release of the wire a spring 26 raises the lever 25 and applies the brake, which acts on a disc 17 forming the lower plate of the reel. The upper plate 21 is slidably mounted on four upstanding arms 19 and is maintained frictionally thereon. The manually depressed support for the machine shown in Fig. 1 may be replaced by a rod 33, Fig. 6, lowered by a pedal 35 and returned by a spring 37 and passing through a bearing 34 in the roller conveyer table 30. |
