A photographic material comprises a support, a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and a layer contiguous or adjacent thereto wherein the binder of each of said layers comprises gelatine and, in addition to the gelatine, one of the layers comprises from 2À5 to 50% by weight carboxy methylated protein in which the -CH2 - group of the carboxyalkyl group may be alkyl-substituted, based on total binder in the layer and the same or the other layer comprises a water-soluble vinyl polymer which is free of amine or carboxy groups e.g. polyacrylamide, poly N-vinyl pyrrolidone, polymers containing the repeating units -CH2 -CH, 0ÀCO, NHR1 wherein R1 is a 1-5C carbon chain substituted with 1-3 substituents having the formula; -CO XR2 R3 X being - N# or -N-N# and R4 being H or alkyl and R2 R4 and R3 being H, alkyl 1-5C, alkoxy alkyl up to 5C or hydroxy alkyl up to 5C, and other vinyl polymers. |
