Steel pipe making equipment comprises pipe production means and secondary treatment means, the production means including two or more production lines at least one of which includes an extrusion press 1, 2, and the secondary treatment means including a hot rolling line and one or more other treatment lines which include means for treating pipes supplied from the production means, and means between the production means and secondary treatment means enabling pipe from any one of the production lines to be delivered to any one of the lines in the secondary treatment means. Steel billets are heated in heating means 7, 8, transferred to delivery means 11, 12, which pass the billets through descalers 13, 14, lubricant appliers 15, 16, piercing presses 5, 6 and further lubricant appliers 15, 16. The pierced billets then pass through reheating means 9, 10 prior to passing through the extrusion presses 1, 2. The extruded pipes pass to conveyers 17, 18 and they may be passed from one to the other if required by transfer means 27. The pipes then pass through a furnace 19, a descaler 20, hot rolling apparatus 21 and on to a conveyer 22. Alternatively, pipes from the conveyer 18 which are to be cold rolled or cold drawn, have their front ends cut by a machine 24 and delivered to the next process via a transfer table 23. Pipes required in the as extruded condition are directly delivered from the conveyer 18 to the table 23. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the pipe production means includes a production line provided with extrusion means and a line provided with hot rolling means, which deliver pipes selectively to further hot rolling means or to one of two treatment lines. |
