A laminate consists of a layer 1 of a polyolefin with a melting range that lies wholly above 120‹ C., and on face or each face of this layer, in succession, a layer 2 of polyethylene with a melting range that lies wholly below 120‹ C., an adhesive layer 3 of an ethylene copolymer containing carboxyl groups, and a metal layer 4. The polyolefin may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polyisobutylene or polymethyl pentene. The adhesive layer preferably consists of a peroxide-containing terpolymer of ethylene, acrylic acid and an acrylic acid ester. The metal may be sheet steel or aluminium foil. The laminates may be made by hot pressing the assembled layers. In a preferred embodiment, the outer layers may be applied by rolling to a hot extruded layer of the polyolefin.</p> |
