PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor memory device which performs copying of memory data without using an external circuit.

SOLUTION: A semiconductor memory device comprises: a bit line to which first terminals of a plurality of memory cells are connected in common; a pre-charge circuit connected to the bit line, which pre-charges the bit line to a predetermined potential during readout; a data storage circuit which has a capacitative element for temporarily storing data read from the memory cells or data written to the memory cells; and an inverted data output circuit for outputting inverted data of the data stored in the data storage circuit to the bit line. The inverted data output circuit comprises means for controlling output of the inverted data of the data stored in the data storage circuit.
