<p>The invention relates to a method for automatically generating route maps, comprising the following steps: receiving a route to be mapped (101); and formatting the data of the route in order to create an arrangement on a substrate, comprising the following steps: defining an axis of orientation for orienting the arrangement of the instructions on the substrate (202); defining at least two areas on the substrate (203), that are essentially side by side, and essentially aligned along the axis of orientation; sub-dividing the route to be mapped into a plurality of units (300); and formatting the schematic representation of the route according to the axial spacing detected, enabling the paired route elements either side of the axis of orientation (304) to be aligned.
