<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless communication system having interchangeability allowed to coexist with conventional CSMA wireless communication and capable of achieving power saving. <P>SOLUTION: A base station transmits allocation information after a periodical beacon signal. In the allocation information, transmission start time and a transmitting/receiving period of data allocated to a wireless LAN terminal with a power saving function are included. Since it is possible for the wireless LAN terminal with the power saving function to know the transmitting/receiving period of the data allocated to itself by the allocation information, the terminal can be set into a power saving mode in a period other than the transmitting/receiving period.
