<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element capable of satisfying both of high flexibility and a high gas barrier property. <P>SOLUTION: An organic EL element comprises a luminescent layer disposed between a pair of electrodes and a barrier film which is disposed on the opposite side of the luminescent layer for one of the electrodes and has one or more thin film layers. A carbon distribution curve of at least one thin film layer satisfies all the following conditions: it is substantially continuous; it has at least one extreme value; and an absolute value of the difference between the maximum value and minimum value of an atomic ratio of a carbon is 5at% or higher. When a maximum surface height is Rmax, the roughness of the surface on the one electrode side of the barrier film satisfies Rmax<200 nm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
