<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery module which is insusceptible to heat at the time of manufacture and enables an improvement of productivity. <P>SOLUTION: A battery module includes a battery and an outer case for accommodating the battery. The battery includes: a battery cell having a positive electrode layer, a negative electrode layer, and electrolyte between the positive electrode layer and the negative electrode layer; and a container capable of accommodating the battery cell. The container includes: a lower lid that has an undersurface, a side face provided upright from the undersurface and surrounding the undersurface, an upper surface opening portion formed to allow passing of the battery cell to be accommodated, and a first contact portion extending along a circumference of the upper surface opening portion and protruding from the side face; and an upper lid that has a second contact portion contacting the first contact portion and closes the upper surface opening portion. The container is hermetically closed by a close contact portion where the first contact portion and the second contact portion are closely contacted to be locked and which protrudes from side surfaces of the lower lid and the upper lid.
