PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a document restoration sequence easily known on the occurrence of a jam in an automatic document feeding device.

SOLUTION: The automatic document feeding device includes: a first feeding path from a document loader reaching an image reader; a second feeding path from the document loader reaching the image reader, different from the first feeding path; a gate for distributing a document from the document loader to either the first feeding path or the second feeding path; sensors for detecting a document jam on the first feeding path and the second feeding path; and a controller for controlling, when the occurrence of the jam is detected by each sensor, and if a jammed sheet is in either one of the branching first feeding path or the second feeding path, to feed documents other than the jammed sheet through the other feeding path having no jammed sheet.
