1,174,347. Wet spinning acrylonitrile polymers. SOC. ITALIANA RESINE S.p.A. 3 May, 1967 [3 May, 1966], No. 20498/67. Heading B5B. A solution of an acrylonitrile polymer or copolymer in a nonaqueous solvent is wet spun into a coagulating bath containing at least 50% by weight cumene and 15-35% by weight organic solvent for the polymer and coagulation is carried out at 30-70‹ C. The bath may also contain up to 25% by weight of linear paraffins having 10-16 carbon atoms in the molecule. The concentration gradient in the coagulating bath is maintained constant to within 3 units per cent. Regeneration of the bath may be carried out continuously by addition of up to 2% water with respect to the polymer solvent and without cooling. The filaments may be drawn 5-15 times their original length in a boiling water bath, the cumene fraction set free from the fibre floating to the top of the draw bath from whence it can be recovered. |
