<p>An effluent treatment unit comprising a reactor tank, a down-flow media region located within the reactor tank, an up-flow region located within the reactor tank, the down-flow media region being in effluent flow communication with the up-flow region, an inlet opening formed within the reactor tank through which effluent can flow into the down-flow media region, an outlet opening formed within the reactor tank through which effluent can flow out of the up-flow region, a separator located within the reactor tank for separating the down-flow media region and the up-flow region and bacterial support media in the down-flow media region for providing bacterial residence in the down-flow media region.</p> |
