<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video file generating device and a video file generating method capable of easily adding metadata to a generated MXF file. <P>SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, the video file generating device comprises an encoder, a metadata acquisition module, a file generation module, and a data storage module. The encoder generates compressed video data from a video stream. The metadata acquisition module acquires metadata relating to the video data. The data storage module is capable of storing files.
