EMERGENCY STOP DEVICE FOR ELEVATOR

An emergency stop device for an elevator is provided to a vertically movable body guided by a guide rail. The emergency stop device has a first emergency stop mechanism and a second emergency stop mechanism which is disposed below the first emergency stop mechanism. The first emergency stop mechanism has first braking bodies capable of being brought into contact with and separated from the guide rail and applies a braking force to the vertically movable body by bringing the first braking bodies into contact with the guide rail. The second emergency stop mechanism has second braking bodies capable of being brought into contact with and separated from the guide rail and applies a braking force to the vertically movable body by bringing the second braking bodies into contact with the guide rail. The position on the guide rail at which the first braking bodies are brought into contact with the guide rail and the position on the guide rail at which the second braking bodies are brought into contact with the guide rail are displaced from each other in the horizontal direction.
