The device (36) has a fluid guide device (40) through which heat transfer fluid i.e. exhaust gas of combustion engine, is moved in a thermal contact unit (38). The fluid guide device comprises multiple separate channels (46, 46a, 46b) and a distribution space (50). The channels are opened at an input side in the distribution space. A rotary element (56) is associated to the channels. The channels are opened or blocked based on a rotational position of the rotary element. The thermal contact unit forms a wall for the channels. The channels are arranged parallel to each other. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a thermoelectric generator device comprising a thermoelectric device (2) a method for controlling a heat transfer device.
