The invention relates to providing application data on a device, for example on a remote-access device that is energetically essentially passive. The application data may be formed into a bit string and the bit string may be stored into a password memory space of the device, thereby saving memory space and possibly avoiding to add memory. At the same time, the password area may still be used as a password field, i.e. the bit string containing application data functions as a password. The password area may be protected from unauthorized access by an access password. For example, the password may be a password for inactivating the device and the access password may be for gaining access to the inactivation functionality of the device.
