<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insert which can have a rake angle corresponding to the hardness of a material to be cut, and can prevent a rise in the material cost even if a cutting edge has enhanced strength. <P>SOLUTION: The insert has a polygonal shape and has the cutting edge 3 at at least one side of the polygon.
