Provided is a battery system that, without providing a dedicated signal line, can achieve the diagnosis of a discharge switch that equalizes unevenness of charging quantity and that is attached to an IC. The battery system is provided with: a battery pack wherein a plurality of batteries are connected in series; a discharge circuit that is connected in parallel to each battery, discharges each battery, and wherein a first resistor and a discharge switch are connected in series; a comparator that, across the first resistor, compares the voltage of each battery to a predetermined voltage; and a diagnosis circuit that diagnoses breakdowns of the discharge switch on the basis of the comparison results of the comparator.
