Proposed is a method and apparatus for quantizing LPC coefficients by converting them into line spectral frequency LSF or immitance spectral frequency ISF coefficients. A weighting function used to determine a quantization weighted error measure is determined for quantizing the coefficient at a frame-end subframe, by determining a magnitude weighting function, a frequency weighting function and combining the magnitude and frequency weighting functions.
