A method and a mobile terminal for automatically identifying a rotary gesture are provided. The method comprises: obtaining touch control information of fingers on a touch screen of the mobile terminal (201), and preprocessing data in the obtained touch control information (202); and identifying the rotary gesture according to the preprocessed data, the touch control information, and a preset time variation threshold, a preset angle variation threshold and a preset distance variation threshold. The method and the mobile terminal can enable the rotary gesture of the mobile terminal to be identified automatically.
