<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical material which includes, as a principal component, an oxide that contains terbium oxide and has both a high Verdet constant in the wavelength range of 1.06 μm (0.9-1.1 μm) and a high transparency, and to provide a miniaturized optical isolator suitable for use in fiber lasers for processing equipment. <P>SOLUTION: The magneto-optical material is characterized by containing 99% or more of an oxide represented in formula (I): (Tb<SB POS="POST">x</SB>R<SB POS="POST">1-x</SB>)<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>, wherein, x is ≥0.4 and ≤1.0, and R contains at least one element selected from the group of lanthanoids excluding scandium, yttrium, and terbium. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
