摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector device capable of improving use efficiency of illumination light. <P>SOLUTION: A projector device comprises: an illumination optical system that is disposed between a light source and a PBS block 223 and has illumination light emitted from the light source enter the PBS block 223 as a light flux having divergent light; reflection type liquid crystal display element 224 that has a rectangular display region 240 disposed opposite to an illumination light emission surface of the PBS block 223 from which the illumination light subjected to polarization separation at a polarization separation surface is emitted, and modulates the illumination light subjected to the polarization separation at the polarization separation surface into modulated light to emit it towards the PBS block 223; and a mask 228 that is disposed between the reflection type liquid crystal display element 224 and the PBS block 223 and prevents a light beam, among the light flux incident on the PBS block 223 and having the divergent light converted by the illumination optical system, from entering the rectangular display region, the light beam being totally reflected on a side surface or an end surface and entering a surface of the PBS block on which the reflection type liquid crystal display element 224 is disposed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
