<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for aligning a turbine casing. <P>SOLUTION: A casing 10 includes an inner shell 12 and an outer shell 14 that surrounds the inner shell 12 and includes a plurality of inflection points. An annular flange 16 is located between the inner shell 12 and the outer shell 14, and a plurality of joints 24 attach the inner shell 12 to the annular flange 16. A connector 34 is located between the annular flange 16 and the outer shell 14 at each of the plurality of inflection points. A method for assembling the casing 10 includes steps of joining a plurality of curved sections 22 to one another to generally define the arcuate inner shell 12 and surrounding the arcuate inner shell 12 with the outer shell 14. The method further includes steps of attaching the arcuate inner shell 14 to the annular flange 16 at first attachment points and connecting the annular flange 16 to the outer shell 12 at second attachment points spaced approximately from the first attachment points at equal distances. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
