<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect similar or identical moving image segments among a number of moving images. <P>SOLUTION: The video descriptor generation device includes first extraction means, second extraction means, and feature amount combining means. The first extraction means extracts a first feature amount for each picture which is a frame or a field of a video. The second extraction means extracts a second feature amount from a region defined by an edge of an image included in the video.
