[Problem] To provide a motor drive device that can readily protect a motor when the motor is locked. [Solution] A motor drive unit (890) with an input port (891a) to which a reference voltage (Vs) is input and comprising: a motor driver (891) that generates from the power supply voltage supplied by a power supply unit (90) a drive voltage based on the reference voltage (Vs) and supplies same to a motor (506); and a protection circuit (893) that switches the reference voltage (Vs) so that the drive voltage is reduced when the amount of current flowing to the motor (506) exceeds a prescribed upper limit current level. The protection circuit (893) retrieves the size of the current that flows to the motor drive (891) from the power supply unit (90) as the size of the current that flows to the motor (506).
