<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inexpensively producing 12-aminododecanoic acid useful as a raw material for nylon, etc. and to provide a biocatalyst used for the method. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing 12-aminododecanoic acid comprises bringing a 6-aminohexanoate-cyclic dimer hydrolase or bacterium of the genus Rhodococcus, Cupriavidus, Sphingomonas or Acidovorax which has the enzyme as a biocatalyst having activity hydrolyzing laurolactam into contact with laurolactam.
