PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection device which can achieve detection of other drives in addition to an attachment state of a cartridge by a simple mechanism. SOLUTION: The ink cartridge 50 comprises a main tank 70 and a pump 170. The pump 170 consists of both a plunger 172 equipped with a piston 181 and a rod 182, and a cylinder 171. The ink cartridge 50 is configured to be attachable and detachable to a cartridge attachment part. An optical sensor 204 is installed at the cartridge attachment part. Also a shielding part 186 which advances and retreats to a detection region of the optical sensor 204 is prepared at a tip of the rod 182. A main control part detects the attachment state of the ink cartridge 50 and an operation state of the plunger 172 on the basis of a signal of the sensor 204 at the time of attachment of the ink cartridge 50 and a signal of the optical sensor 204 at the time of driving of the plunger 172.
